Written by me, and featuring Doc for art ... in case anyone's interested. I feel like I'm screaming in the wilderness on this one sometimes.
I just saw in the comments here that a State Farm salesperson claims that the company will actually write existing homeowners new policies, as long as they stay away from the hurricane zones. That's not what the State Farm spokesman in Tallahassee told me, but if it's true, it's good news for whoever has State Farm and owns a restricted breed.

Something about this ...
... Reminds me of Tucker. Not that Tucker is that dumb – he's just sort of dense. And slow to catch on.

For readers of Whole Dog Journal: There's a photo of Doc and me tracking in the most recent issue. A reporter contacted us because she was doing a story about canine tracking activities. She found this blog and saw the photos from Doc's TR2 and published one of them along with her story. Very exciting!
I love that publication – always full of good stuff.
Speaking of Doc and me, we haven't been doing much of anything but trying to adjust to the weather, the new house, our new life, etc. We have contacted a couple of schutzhund clubs in Florida, but I've been thinking it might be too hot for two Northerners to just jump back into it before we're really acclimated to the heat. And it's not so much the heat but the humidity – there are days when it feels like you're breathing mush out there. So we may wait til fall before we start really doing anything again.

This photo, by the way, looks it portrays a perfectly comfy and peaceful way for a dog to spend the day, right? Not so much for a dog that's used to doing very physical things on a regular basis. Doc's pretty bored and frustrated without any real challenges to confront right now, since we haven't been training. So today, for the first day in a couple of months, I asked for some real obedience. Heeling around the yard, some go-outs, some straight fronts, some tight turns and pivots while heeling, etc. We used the ball for a reward, and I must say, it might have been some of the prettiest obedience I've seen out of this dog for a while.
There's definitely something to be said for taking a break. Now if only I could get a consistent and good-looking retrieve, we'd be in business again.
