Yay, Doc now retrieves! Over a wall! I am happy!
It's lower than regulation right now, because I'm trying to get him into the habit of jumping by clearing the jump with all four feet, rather than hopping on top and flinging himself off it--his favorite way to jump. :\
Turns out, he gets excited enough for the dumbbell that he springs much higher over the jump when he knows it's on the other side--so that may be the answer to our problem!
Anyway, here are a few YouTube vids of his retrieves.
Another . . .
And a retrieve on flat ground, just because.
Still lots of cleaning up to do, but I am over. the. moon. that we have finally got a basic retrieve down. I have never taught a dog a formal retrieve in my life, much less over a jump. I may die happy now.

Big Rain Coming
According to the forecasters, we're going to get hit with a wicked storm tomorrow--torrential downpours and wind and all that. So no training for us tomorrow, just lots of treadmill time for the big fathead. And lots of couch time for the cute little black and white one. The old cranky one (no, not me) will probably be hiding underneath something because she is scared of storms.
Stay dry everybody!
Stay dry everybody!

Look, a Retriever!

Well, not really. Not at all, actually. He's so not into this retrieving thing, it's ridiculous. Sure, he loves to play and bring back his ball or a toy or whatever, but making him bring back the dumbbell is torture for him. So heavy, so clunky, so not fun to chew on, so horrible!
His retrieve is still sloppy and we have a long way to go. But we're working on it.
